Delhi Court Grants Bail to Alleged Administrator of ‘Spirit of Congress’ WhatsApp Group

A Delhi court has granted bail to Arun Kumar Bereddy, who was arrested for his alleged role in circulating a doctored video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Nabeela Wali approved the bail on a bond of Rs. 50,000 with similar surety, recognizing Bereddy’s cooperation with the ongoing investigation and his limited role as merely the administrator of the WhatsApp group where the video was first shared.

Delhi Police Special Cell had detained Bereddy on May 3, following an FIR lodged on April 28 under several IPC sections, including those for forgery and promoting enmity between different groups. The case pertains to the alleged editing and circulation of a video clip of Shah from a Lok Sabha rally, misrepresented to suggest he advocated for abolishing all reservations, which was intended to incite public disorder.

The court stipulated several conditions upon granting bail, including Bereddy’s continued cooperation with the police, not leaving the country without court permission, and not tampering with evidence. This development follows revelations that Bereddy disclosed the involvement of another suspect and an agency allegedly responsible for creating the fabricated video, further deepening the investigation into this politically sensitive case.
