Delhi Court Sends Arvind Kejriwal’s Aide to 14 Days Judicial Custody

Delhi’s Tis Hazari court has sent Bibhav Kumar, an aide of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, to 14 days judicial custody in connection with the alleged assault case involving Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal. Kumar was produced before the court following the completion of his three-day police custody, during which his counsel opposed the Delhi Police’s petition for an extended custody period. Kumar, arrested on May 18, asserted his commitment to preserving evidence and denied any intention to tamper with the investigation.

Swati Maliwal accused Kumar of assaulting her on May 13 at Kejriwal’s residence, detailing that he slapped her multiple times and physically dragged and kicked her. Consequently, an FIR was registered on May 16 against Kumar under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges of criminal intimidation and assault with the intent to disrobe and attempt to commit culpable homicide. Kumar has countered with a complaint accusing Maliwal of unauthorized entry and verbal abuse at the CM’s residence.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has reserved its decision on the maintainability of Kumar’s plea challenging his arrest. Kumar’s plea argues that his arrest violated the provisions of Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, asserting that his arrest was illegal and against the law’s mandate. The case continues to develop as both parties present their narratives and await further judicial decisions.
