Karnataka High Court Adjourns Hearing on Yediyurappa’s POCSO Case for a Week
The Karnataka High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing of former chief minister B S Yediyurappa’s petition to quash the POCSO case registered against him, providing him temporary relief from arrest. Yediyurappa, a senior BJP leader, had approached the court seeking to quash the FIR, which he claimed was false. The high court has restrained the police from taking any precipitative action against him until the next hearing.
The case stems from a complaint lodged by a woman who alleged that Yediyurappa had sexually harassed her 17-year-old daughter during a meeting to address their grievances. Despite being served notices twice by the police to appear before the investigation officer, Yediyurappa did not comply, leading the police to obtain an arrest warrant from a city court.
In response to the arrest warrant, Yediyurappa approached the high court, which has now deferred the matter for a week. This adjournment offers Yediyurappa a temporary reprieve as he continues to contest the charges against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
