Brain Health Meets Travel: Resorts and Diets Align to Fight Cognitive Decline

With brain wellness gaining momentum in the health and travel industries, luxury resorts are stepping up with targeted programs to boost neurological health. Kamalaya in Koh Samui has launched a Brain Enhancement Program aimed at optimizing cognitive function, while Lanserhof Tegernsee in the Bavarian Alps offers a Brain Health Program combining neurofeedback therapy with holistic care. These initiatives reflect a growing global concern, as studies predict dementia cases will nearly triple from 57 million in 2019 to 152 million by 2050.

Alongside destination wellness, diet is emerging as a key tool in preventing cognitive decline. The MIND diet—a fusion of the Mediterranean and DASH diets—has gained recognition for its brain-boosting benefits. Backed by studies, including one published in Neurology in 2024, the MIND diet has been linked to better memory, a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s, and improved cardiovascular health. It emphasizes plant-based, unprocessed foods rich in antioxidants while limiting red meat, cheese, and fried foods.

The MIND diet includes green leafy vegetables, berries, nuts, legumes, whole grains, fish, and olive oil as staples. Fermented foods like yogurt are also encouraged. Meanwhile, foods like sweets, processed items, and excessive alcohol are discouraged. With its simplicity and evidence-backed benefits, the MIND diet offers a sustainable way for people of all ages to prioritize brain health—whether at home or while vacationing in the world’s top wellness resorts.
