CBI Alleges Creation of False Records in RG Kar Hospital Rape-Murder Case, Cites CCTV Evidence

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital, informed a Kolkata court that “false records” were created at Tala Police Station. The agency, assigned by the Calcutta High Court, has secured CCTV footage from the police station, which has been sent for forensic analysis. Kolkata Police has yet to respond to these serious allegations.

The CBI arrested Abhijit Mondal, former officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, and Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the hospital’s ex-chief, for their alleged roles in tampering with evidence and financial irregularities, respectively. The court remanded them to judicial custody until September 30. Prime suspect Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer seen entering the room where the doctor’s body was found, has also been arrested.

The investigation points to a possible conspiracy between Mondal, Ghosh, and Roy, focusing on delays in seizing evidence that may have compromised the case. Both the High Court and Supreme Court have questioned why there was a 14-hour delay in filing a police case after the body was discovered. Meanwhile, junior doctors, protesting the killing since August, partially resumed essential duties but warned their agitation could continue.
