Delhi Court Summons Zomato Over Allegations of Fraudulent Food Delivery Practices

A Delhi court has issued a summons to the popular food delivery platform, Zomato, following a civil suit that accuses the company of deceptive practices by promising “hot and authentic food” from “iconic restaurants” across the national capital but failing to deliver on these promises. The suit, filed by Gurugram resident Sourav Mall, alleges that Zomato’s ‘Dilli ke Legends’ category misleadingly claims to deliver fresh food from well-known eateries, but instead, the food is picked up from unaffiliated and undisclosed locations.

The controversy came to light when the Mall ordered food from three renowned restaurants and discovered through tracking the delivery partner that the orders were not picked up from the eateries. The suit raises concerns about the authenticity and freshness of the food delivered under Zomato’s service, questioning the absence of original packaging and the feasibility of delivering food from iconic Delhi restaurants to areas like Gurugram and Noida within 30 minutes.

Civil Judge Umesh Kumar, presiding over the case, has scheduled further proceedings for March 20. The lawsuit represents a broader grievance against Zomato, accusing the company of deceiving the public with false advertising and fraudulent practices. This case highlights growing concerns over the accountability of online food delivery services and their responsibility towards consumers.
