Election Commission Investigates Allegations of Misconduct in Haryana Election Permissions

The Election Commission of India has initiated an inquiry into allegations made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding the misuse of the Election Commission’s Suvidha portal, which resulted in the rejection of their application to hold election events in Haryana using derogatory language. The AAP’s request was reportedly dismissed with an abuse, prompting a response from the Election Commission. Sources reveal that the Commission has sought a detailed report from Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer, Anurag Agarwal, on the incident, indicating a serious approach towards maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

In a related development, the Deputy Commissioner of Kaithal disclosed actions taken in response to the controversy, including the suspension of five individuals suspected of involvement and the registration of an FIR. This came after allegations surfaced about unauthorized access to the ENCORE portal by unknown individuals, leading to the offensive rejection of the AAP’s event application. The Deputy Commissioner’s statements on social media platform X highlighted the administration’s commitment to investigating the incident thoroughly and ensuring accountability.

Amidst these developments, the AAP has raised further concerns regarding the Election Commission’s conduct, particularly in relation to the dissemination of notices and the perceived bias in handling complaints against political parties. Party leader Atishi pointed out discrepancies in the timing of a notice received by her, which was reportedly leaked to the media prior to her receipt, and questioned the Commission’s inaction on a complaint filed against the BJP for objectionable hoardings in Delhi. These incidents have stirred a debate on the impartiality and efficiency of the Election Commission, especially during the sensitive period of election campaigning.
