Five Booked Under Gangsters Act in Chitrakoot Extortion Case

In a significant development in Chitrakoot, five individuals, including Abbas Ansari, the son of Mukhtar Ansari and a sitting MLA, have been booked under the Gangsters Act. The FIR, lodged at Karvi Police Station, names Abbas Ansari, his driver Niaz Ansari, jail canteen manager Navneet Sachan, Varanasi accountant Shahbaz Alam Khan, and local SP leader Faraz Khan. The group is accused of operating an extortion racket and intimidating people while Abbas Ansari was incarcerated in Chitrakoot’s Ragauli jail.

Currently, Abbas Ansari is detained in Kasganj jail, while the other four individuals have been released on bail. This case follows their previous imprisonment for permitting Abbas Ansari and his wife, Nikhat Ansari, to meet in prison, an incident that had earlier led to their arrest.

Abbas Ansari, elected as an MLA from the Mau seat in the 2022 UP assembly elections on a Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party ticket, is now associated with the NDA coalition governing the Centre, having been part of the Samajwadi Party alliance at the time of his election.
