Frasers Group Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of Braehead Shopping Centre

Frasers Group has strengthened its retail footprint with the acquisition of Scotland’s Braehead Shopping Centre, previously owned by SGS UK Retail. The sale forms part of SGS’s broader restructuring strategy, through which the company repositioned Braehead to enhance both its market presence and sales performance. SGS CEO Claire Barber noted that the handover was aligned with their long-term plan, adding that the revamped centre offers a robust foundation for Frasers Group to build on.

The move advances Frasers Group’s ongoing Elevation Strategy, focused on developing a high-potential retail portfolio. Group CEO Michael Murray highlighted that the acquisition reinforces their role as a major operator in physical retail, supporting plans to deliver stronger brand experiences across communities. Murray added that the investment provides an opportunity to further unlock Braehead’s commercial and experiential potential.

Covering 1.1 million square feet, Braehead has shown notable resilience, outperforming the wider Scottish retail market over the past year. Footfall and consumer spending rose by 3% and 4% year-on-year, respectively, up to June. The centre is also slated to debut a new indoor leisure and recreation offering early next year, reflecting continued demand from both new and established tenants.
