Lalu Yadav Slams Amit Shah Over Ambedkar Remarks, Calls for Resignation

Amid a heated political row, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav sharply criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his comments on Dr. BR Ambedkar during a Rajya Sabha debate. Lalu Yadav called Shah “mad” and accused him of harboring hatred toward Ambedkar, demanding his resignation from politics. The remarks, widely reported by ANI, have sparked a strong backlash across the opposition, with Lalu asserting, “Babasaheb Ambedkar is great. We condemn this madness of his.”

The controversy began when Amit Shah, while debating the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha, accused Congress of frequently invoking Ambedkar’s name as a “fashion.” Shah’s statement — “If they had taken God’s name this many times, they would have reached heaven in seven lifetimes” — drew condemnation from Congress and allied parties. Former Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav labeled Shah and BJP as “anti-constitution” and vowed to protect Ambedkar’s legacy, describing him as their “motivation and inspiration.”

Congress MP Manickam Tagore escalated the issue by moving an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, seeking Shah’s resignation and a public apology. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with other leaders including Rahul Gandhi, staged protests at Parliament, accusing Shah of insulting Ambedkar. The remarks have intensified opposition unity as they demand accountability from the Union Home Minister.
