Mithun Chakraborty to Receive Prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty has been selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the country’s highest honor in cinema, for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. The announcement was made by Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who praised Chakraborty’s remarkable cinematic journey. The award will be presented at the 70th National Film Awards on October 8.

Chakraborty, known for his diverse roles and iconic performances, debuted in 1976 with *Mrigayaa*, for which he won his first National Film Award. His rise to fame came with the 1982 blockbuster *Disco Dancer*. Over his career, he has won three National Film Awards and was honored with the Padma Bhushan. In addition to his film career, Chakraborty has had a political stint, including being a member of the Rajya Sabha.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, instituted in 1969, is given to individuals for their significant contributions to Indian cinema. Mithun Chakraborty becomes the 54th award recipient, including a medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹1,000,000.
