MK Stalin has written to Modi, requesting the CUET exams be cancelled

MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), which is required for admission to all Central Universities, be scrapped.

It was recently announced that for the 2022-2023 academic year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) will only accept applications for various courses in all Central Universities funded by the University Grants Commission through the National Testing Agency’s Common University Entrance Examination (CUET) (NTA).

“CUET, like Neet, will marginalise the various school education systems across the country, grossly undercut the relevance of overall development oriented long-form learning in schools, and force students to rely on coaching centres to improve their entrance examination scores,” Stalin wrote.

In his letter, Chief Minister Stalin stated that this (CUET), like the Neet, will affect students who do not follow the NCERT syllabus. Stalin claimed in his letter that the exam, which was based on NCERT, would disadvantage deserving students from other syllabuses.”I’d like to emphasise that any entrance exam based on the NCERT syllabus will not provide an equal opportunity to all students who have studied a variety of State Board syllabi across the country.” “In most states, State Board syllabus students account for more than 80% of the total student population, and these students invariably come from marginalised communities,” CM Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
