Mumbai Police Summons Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and YouTuber Samay Raina Over Controversial Remarks

Mumbai Police on Tuesday summoned podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, known for his channel BeerBiceps, and YouTuber Samay Raina for questioning over a controversial joke made during the show India’s Got Latent, hosted by Raina. The remarks, which featured Allahbadia alongside content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija, sparked widespread criticism and outrage after going viral on social media.
The remarks were condemned by politicians, human rights organizations, celebrities, and the public, prompting complaints from various groups, lawyers, and political outfits in Mumbai. Two city-based lawyers, Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, filed formal complaints with Mumbai Police and women’s commissions, alleging the comments were obscene and derogatory toward women and parents. The Congress-affiliated National Students Union of India also moved the Bandra magistrate court seeking a criminal investigation.
While Mumbai Police are conducting a preliminary inquiry, no FIR has been registered yet. However, the Assam Police lodged a case on Monday, with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirming the development on social media. The controversy has reignited debates around content regulation on OTT platforms and freedom of speech.
