Munawar Faruqui Faces Legal Trouble Over ‘Hafta Vasooli’ Show
Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui has landed in legal trouble after a complaint was filed against him for allegedly hurting religious sentiments in his JioHotstar show Hafta Vasooli. Advocate Amita Sachdeva lodged the complaint, citing violations under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 196, 299, and 353, along with the IT Act. She alleged that the show promotes obscenity, insults multiple religions, and negatively influences society and young minds.
Sachdeva shared a copy of her complaint on social media platform X, stating that the request for an FIR had been emailed and would be physically submitted soon. She warned that if no action was taken, she would move the court for justice. Meanwhile, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti also called for a ban on the show, amplifying demands for action against the comedian.
This controversy follows another recent backlash against podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia, whose remarks on India’s Got Latent regarding ‘parental sex’ sparked outrage. Several FIRs have been filed against Ranveer, comedian Samay Raina, and other influencers involved in the episode, further fueling discussions on content regulation in the digital space.
