Delhi Court Summons Lalu Prasad Yadav, Family in Land-for-Jobs Case
A Delhi court on Tuesday summoned Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, his son Tej Pratap Yadav, and daughter Hema Yadav in connection with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case related to the alleged land-for-jobs scam. The Rouse Avenue court also issued fresh summonses to Lalu’s younger son and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, directing them to appear on March 11. The summonses were issued after the court took cognisance of the CBI’s final chargesheet, which names 78 people, including 30 government officials.
The case pertains to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Union Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009, during which he and his family members allegedly acquired land at significantly lower rates in exchange for offering Group D jobs in Central Railways. The CBI registered the case in May 2022, accusing Lalu, his family, and others of corruption. While Lalu and his two sons have already secured bail in the money laundering case linked to the alleged scam, investigations continue under both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The fresh developments add to the legal troubles of the veteran politician and his family, who have consistently denied any wrongdoing, calling the case politically motivated. The court’s latest order now sets the stage for the next hearing on March 11, where the accused will have to respond to the allegations before the judiciary.
