Nitish Kumar Becomes Bihar Chief Minister for Ninth Time, PM Modi Extends Congratulations

In a significant turn of events in Bihar politics, Janata Dal-United (JDU) chief Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record ninth time. The ceremony took place at Raj Bhavan on Sunday, marking a notable shift in the state’s political landscape. This development follows Kumar’s decision to leave the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ alliance, comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, and to join forces with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nitish Kumar on his new tenure as Chief Minister. In a recent social media post, PM Modi expressed his confidence in the newly formed NDA government in Bihar. “The NDA government formed in Bihar will leave no stone unturned for the development of the state and to fulfill the aspirations of its people,” he wrote. Alongside Nitish Kumar, Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers, adding to the strength of the new administration.

Nitish Kumar cited the unsatisfactory state of affairs under the Mahagathbandhan as the primary reason for his departure from the alliance. He mentioned receiving advice from various quarters, including his party workers, which influenced his decision to resign and break ties with the RJD and Congress. Despite being known for his frequent political realignments, Kumar has consistently managed to secure the Chief Minister’s position in Bihar. The current assembly composition in Bihar includes 79 seats held by RJD, 78 by BJP, 45 by JDU, 19 by Congress, and others making up the remainder.
