Pinterest Launches AI-Powered Visual Assistant to Revolutionize Shopping and Discovery
Pinterest has introduced its first AI-powered visual-first assistant, designed to redefine how users shop and discover ideas on the platform. Unlike traditional chatbots, the new Pinterest Assistant is built on an AI visual language model that enables real-time, conversational interactions rooted in images, voice, and text. The tool aims to solve the “I’ll know it when I see it” challenge many shoppers face by offering personalised, proactive recommendations based on the platform’s vast content and insights from nearly 600 million monthly active users.
According to Pinterest, the assistant allows users to chat, collaborate, and shop in a more natural, visual, and conversational way. With voice-enabled interactions, users can describe what they are looking for, and the assistant responds with curated, shoppable visual results. “Searching on Pinterest becomes even more visual and closer to how people shop in real life,” the company stated, highlighting how the feature mirrors real-world shopping experiences.
Pinterest CEO Bill Ready said the feature enhances what users already love about the platform—its intuitive understanding of individual tastes and styles. “With Pinterest Assistant, we’re supercharging that magic by leveraging AI to help our users discover and shop like they would with that person who knows them best,” he added. Currently rolling out in beta to U.S. users aged 18 and above, the assistant will expand globally in the coming months, allowing users to talk to it simply by tapping the mic icon and describing what they’re looking for.
