Ronit Roy Calls Out Swiggy for Delivery Partner’s Traffic Violation, Sparks Social Media Debate

In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, celebrated actor Ronit Roy raised concerns over the safety practices of online food ordering and delivery platform Swiggy’s delivery personnel. Roy narrated a harrowing incident where he “almost killed” a Swiggy delivery agent who was riding an electric moped on the wrong side of the road, directly into oncoming traffic. Highlighting the serious safety lapse, Roy questioned Swiggy’s commitment to the well-being of their delivery partners, asking, “@Swiggy I almost killed one of your riders. They need instructions on riding. Riding those small electric mopeds doesn’t mean that they ride on the wrong side of the road onto oncoming traffic. But then, Do you even care for their lives or is it just business as usual?”

Swiggy promptly responded to Roy’s alarming claim with a statement saying, “Hey Ronit, we expect our delivery partner to follow all traffic rules and have noted this to be looked into, do share any details if available for the necessary action to be taken. -Luv.” This exchange has since gone viral, drawing attention from numerous social media users and sparking a wider conversation about the safety and working conditions of delivery partners.

The incident has led to a flood of reactions from netizens, some of whom shared their own experiences with Swiggy delivery partners violating traffic norms. Critiques ranged from concerns over Swiggy’s time-bound delivery expectations to calls for the company to enforce stricter penalties for traffic violations by their delivery personnel. Amid the backlash, some users also recalled Swiggy’s positive initiatives, such as a heartwarming Valentine’s Day gesture towards a customer, highlighting the company’s potential for positive community engagement amidst the controversy.
