Saif Ali Khan’s Ancestral Properties Worth ₹15,000 Crore May Fall Under Enemy Property Act

Ancestral properties worth ₹15,000 crore belonging to Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s Pataudi family in Madhya Pradesh are under legal scrutiny after the Madhya Pradesh High Court lifted a stay on these assets. The properties, mostly located in Bhopal, could now come under the Central government’s control under the Enemy Property Act, 1968. This Act enables the government to acquire properties owned by individuals who migrated to Pakistan after the 1947 Partition.

The case, which began in 2015, involves land declared as government property by the Enemy Property Custodian Office. The Pataudi family, including Saif Ali Khan, his mother Sharmila Tagore, and his sisters, has claimed ownership of iconic properties such as Noor-e-Saba, Flag House, and Ahmedabad Palace, citing legal inheritance from Nawab Hamidullah Khan through Sajida Sultan, Saif’s grandmother. However, the migration of Hamidullah Khan’s eldest daughter, Abida Sultan, to Pakistan has complicated the ownership status.

A December 2024 High Court order directed the family to present their case before the appellate authority within 30 days, but no updates on compliance have been made public. The Bhopal administration has withheld further comments, awaiting a clearer directive. This development could impact one of the most prominent royal family legacies in India.
