Siddaramaiah Dismisses MUDA Scam Allegations as Political Vendetta

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has labeled the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam case as a “sham” and accused the BJP and JDS of engaging in “revenge politics.” This statement follows the dismissal of Siddaramaiah’s plea by the Karnataka High Court regarding a sanction granted by Governor Thawarchand Gehlot that allows three private individuals to file corruption cases against him related to a land grant to his wife. Siddaramaiah emphasized that he remains committed to fighting against what he perceives as politically motivated attacks and expressed confidence in the judicial process.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar echoed Siddaramaiah’s sentiments, asserting that the Congress party stands firmly behind him. He condemned the allegations as part of a broader conspiracy by the BJP to undermine opposition leaders across India. Shivakumar maintained that Siddaramaiah has committed no wrongdoing and asserted that the BJP’s attempts to destabilize the Karnataka government stem from an inability to accept its successful governance and welfare schemes.

In contrast, the BJP welcomed the High Court’s decision and reiterated its call for Siddaramaiah’s resignation. State BJP chief B Y Vijayendra characterized the ruling as a triumph for the people of Karnataka, insisting that Siddaramaiah should step down in light of the court’s findings. The High Court concluded that the Governor acted appropriately in granting permission to file cases against Siddaramaiah, indicating that the order was not made hastily and adhered to legal provisions. Siddaramaiah is expected to challenge the High Court’s ruling in the Supreme Court.
