Spinnova and Circulose Partner to Advance Circular Textile Production

European textile recycling innovators are strengthening collaboration as Finland-based Spinnova announces the official integration of Sweden’s Circulose into its production ecosystem. Spinnova, known for producing cellulosic fibres from materials such as paper, cardboard, cotton textiles, leather, and agricultural residues without harmful chemicals, aims to secure a steady supply of circular raw materials through the partnership. The move is expected to help the company transition from pilot operations to full-scale commercial production.

Circulose, which emerged from the restructuring of Renewcell after its acquisition by the Altor fund in 2024, recently revived operations at its Ortviken plant in Sweden. The facility produces pulp from chemically recycled cotton-rich textile waste, which will now serve as a key raw material for Spinnova’s innovative fibre production process. The collaboration highlights a renewed industrial momentum for Circulose while strengthening the supply chain for sustainable textile manufacturing.

The partnership combines complementary technologies, enabling Spinnova’s mechanical spinning process to potentially use 100 percent Circulose pulp without blending with virgin wood pulp, unlike traditional viscose production. The result is a bio-based fibre produced without harmful chemical dissolution and with a significantly lower environmental footprint. Industry leaders say the collaboration could offer fashion brands a viable alternative to conventional cotton, which is often criticized for its high water and pesticide consumption.
