TCS receives $1.83 billion BSNL contract for 4G services

State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has given a consortium led by India’s Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) an order for more than 150 billion rupees ($1.83 billion) to build a nationwide 4G network. The firm announced this on Monday.

The decision comes as Indian IT service providers struggle with a lack of demand.

The biggest IT services company in India, TCS, has been dealing with pressure in its $1 billion or more “large deals” segment as clients in key markets in the U.S. and Europe put off decisions due to a weakening macroeconomic climate.

The corporation stated that its order book was $10 billion when it released weaker-than-expected fourth-quarter results.

Additionally, it warned that deal closings for the current quarter could drop to $7 billion to $9 billion.

In a deal worth 80 billion rupees, it was re-hired last year to manage the nation’s Passport Seva Programme.
