Vinesh Phogat Criticizes IOA Chief PT Usha Over Hospital Photo, Announces Retirement

In a shocking turn of events at the Paris Olympics, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the women’s 50kg wrestling final after failing the weigh-in by just 100 grams. The disqualification nullified her previous results, leaving her devastated. Following the incident, Vinesh was hospitalized due to exhaustion from extreme weight-loss measures. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha visited her in the hospital, but a photo from that meeting, shared on social media, drew Vinesh’s ire.

Vinesh accused PT Usha of politicizing the situation by sharing the photo without her consent, saying it added to her heartbreak during one of the lowest moments of her life. Despite reassurances of support, Vinesh expressed that she felt abandoned and criticized the actions as mere posturing. The incident led her to announce her retirement from wrestling, marking a painful end to her Olympic journey.

Upon returning to India, Vinesh joined the Indian National Congress, signaling the beginning of a new chapter in her life as she transitioned from sports to politics. Her appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a joint silver medal was also rejected, further compounding her disappointment.
