Supreme Court Considers NEET UG 2024 Retest Amid Question Paper Leak
The Supreme Court of India is deliberating on whether to order a retest for the NEET UG 2024 exam following allegations of a question paper leak. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, leading a three-judge bench, emphasized the need to determine if the breach affected the integrity of the entire examination process and whether it is possible to identify and segregate the beneficiaries of the leak from the untainted students.
The bench, which includes Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, has asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to clarify the nature and extent of the leak. The court has directed the NTA to provide detailed information about the leak’s origin, the locations involved, and the time lag between the leak and the exam held on May 5. Additionally, the CBI has been asked to submit a report on the current status of its investigation.
A further hearing is scheduled for July 11, where the Supreme Court will decide based on the responses from the NTA, CBI, and the government. The court has also recommended forming a multi-disciplinary team of experts to prevent future breaches and has directed the concerned authorities to file their affidavits by July 10.
