Bihar Assembly Passes Bill to Combat Exam Malpractices Amidst Opposition Walkout
The Bihar assembly passed the Bihar Public Examinations (PE) (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, aimed at curbing the rampant issue of question paper leaks and other malpractices in government recruitment exams. The bill, tabled by state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, was passed through a voice vote despite a walkout by the opposition.
The new legislation is a significant step towards maintaining the integrity of competitive examinations in Bihar. The state has recently been embroiled in controversies such as the NEET 2024 question paper leak, highlighting the urgent need for stricter regulations. The bill targets various malpractices, including the leakage of question papers, which have plagued the state’s examination system.
Under the new law, individuals found guilty of such malpractices will face severe penalties. The bill stipulates a prison term ranging from three to five years and a hefty fine of Rs 10 lakh. This stringent measure aims to deter potential offenders and restore faith in the state’s examination processes.
