Arvind Kejriwal Called “Sutradhaar” in Delhi Excise Policy Case by CBI; High Court Reserves Bail Order
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has labeled Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as the “sutradhaar” (facilitator) of the Delhi excise policy case, according to special public prosecutor DP Singh. The CBI, represented by Singh, submitted before the Delhi High Court that material evidence started to emerge against Kejriwal only after his arrest. The court, which was hearing Kejriwal’s plea seeking regular bail, has reserved its order.
During the proceedings, Singh asserted that after Kejriwal’s arrest, numerous individuals, including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers, came forward with evidence. He claimed the agency could not have completed its investigation without arresting the Delhi CM, adding that there is proof of Kejriwal’s direct involvement in the scam. Despite the charge sheet being filed, Singh expressed concerns that Kejriwal could influence witnesses either directly or indirectly.
In defense, Kejriwal’s lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, argued that the agency lacks direct evidence against Kejriwal and has not recovered any incriminating material from his home. Singhvi highlighted that the excise policy was an institutional decision involving multiple bureaucrats, including the Lieutenant Governor and nine ministries. He criticized the CBI for not accusing the L-G, contending that the case against Kejriwal is primarily based on hearsay and lacks substantial evidence.
