Controversy Erupts Over Sam Pitroda’s Comments on India’s Diversity
Senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda has once again found himself at the center of controversy due to his recent remarks on national unity. In an exclusive interview, he made a comment that likened India’s diverse population to various ethnicities, triggering criticism from both within his own party and from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Congress party swiftly distanced itself from Pitroda’s analogy, labeling it as “extremely wrong and unacceptable.” Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh emphasized that Pitroda’s views did not reflect the stance of the Indian National Congress.
On the other hand, BJP leaders, including Chief Ministers N Biren Singh and Himanta Biswa Sarma, criticized Pitroda’s remarks, asserting that India’s diversity should be celebrated, not reduced to divisive comparisons. Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, a BJP candidate, went further, accusing Pitroda of making racist and divisive comments.
Pitroda’s comment comes amid ongoing political tensions between the Congress and the BJP, with previous clashes over issues such as inheritance tax and Prime Minister Modi’s statements about Muslims. Pitroda defended his remarks, highlighting India’s democratic values and diversity, while contrasting them with what he perceives as the BJP’s focus on religious identity.
