Delhi High Court Denies Protection to CM Arvind Kejriwal in Liquor Policy Case

The Delhi High Court has refused to grant interim protection from arrest to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal regarding the controversial liquor policy case. The court, however, has directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to respond to Kejriwal’s new plea and scheduled further proceedings for April 22. This development came after Kejriwal sought legal shield against arrest in his petition, which also challenges the legality of the ED’s summonses for his alleged involvement in money laundering during the formulation of the now-defunct Delhi liquor policy.

Kejriwal’s legal team appealed to the high court for a deferment of the ninth summons issued by the ED, arguing that the AAP leader has consistently regarded the summons as unlawful. The ED, represented by Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, noted Kejriwal’s repeated non-compliance with the summonses. The Aam Aadmi Party leader has been vocal about his objections, deeming the central agency’s actions as illegal.

The controversy centers on the ED’s allegations within chargesheets that suggest Kejriwal and other AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh (both currently in judicial custody), were directly involved in framing an excise policy that purportedly provided undue advantages to certain parties in exchange for kickbacks. The case continues to unravel as the court awaits the ED’s detailed response to Kejriwal’s assertions.
