Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa Faces POCSO Case

In a recent development that has sent shockwaves through Karnataka’s political circles, former Chief Minister and BJP stalwart BS Yediyurappa has been accused of sexual assault, with the Bengaluru police filing a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO), and Section 354 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The complaint, lodged by the mother of a 17-year-old girl, alleges that the senior BJP leader sexually assaulted her daughter during a meeting last month. Responding to the allegations, Yediyurappa stated that the complaint stemmed from a misunderstanding and insisted that he had only intended to help the woman and her family, for which he had even provided financial assistance.

Yediyurappa vehemently denied any political conspiracy behind the accusations, expressing his intention to address the situation legally. He recounted his efforts to assist the woman and her daughter, who had approached him for help, by referring them to the police for further action. However, he claims that the situation was misrepresented, leading to the filing of the FIR. The BJP leader remains firm in his stance to legally contest the charges filed against him.

The case has drawn attention from various quarters, including Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, who confirmed the filing of the complaint but refrained from commenting further pending investigation. This case marks a significant chapter in the career of Yediyurappa, who is revered as one of Karnataka’s most influential political figures, having served as the Chief Minister four times and as the Leader of the Opposition on three occasions. The legal proceedings and investigation into the complaint are keenly awaited, as they are set to determine the future course of this high-profile case.
