Harmanpreet Kaur Addresses Media on Coverage Concerns and T20 World Cup Focus
Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was taken aback by a question regarding the lack of media coverage during the team’s bilateral series in Bangladesh earlier this year. At a press conference ahead of the Women’s Asia Cup, starting Friday, July 19, a journalist inquired about the seriousness with which women’s cricket is perceived, given the limited journalist presence at the series. Harmanpreet, maintaining her composure, responded with a smile, “Well, that is none of my business. You guys have to come and cover us.”
Despite the surprising question, Harmanpreet shifted focus to the upcoming Asia Cup, emphasizing its significance as a preparatory platform for the T20 World Cup later this year. She highlighted the importance of the tournament for the team’s performance at both the Asian and world levels. “This tournament is significant for all of us because we give equal respect to this tournament and want to improve at the Asian and the world level. So our focus will remain the same as we prepare for the T20 World Cup or any other World Cup. Every game is important for us and we will try to give our best,” Harmanpreet stated.
India, the defending champions and the most successful team in the history of the Women’s Asia Cup, will face Nida Dar’s Pakistan in their opening match on Friday, July 19. The team arrived in Dambulla on Tuesday night, ready to defend their title and set the stage for their T20 World Cup campaign.
