Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal Seeks Opposition Support Over Alleged Assault by Kejriwal’s Aide

Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has reached out to leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, to discuss her alleged assault by Bibhav Kumar, an aide of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Maliwal accused her own party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), of victim shaming and character assassination following her filing of a case against Kumar.

In a letter shared on social media, Maliwal expressed the pain and isolation she has faced since the incident, stating, “Instead of finding support, I was confronted with incessant attacks on my character and victim shaming orchestrated by the leaders and volunteers of my own party.” She sought time from the opposition leaders to discuss the issue and gain their support.

Maliwal alleged that she was assaulted by Kumar at the Chief Minister’s residence and criticized her party for not standing by her. Kumar, whose judicial custody was recently extended, has had his bail petitions rejected by the court. Maliwal’s outreach to the INDIA bloc leaders aims to highlight her struggle for justice and the challenges faced by survivors of assault.
