Shahid Kapoor Opens Up About Industry Bias and Personal Struggles on No Filter Neha

In a candid conversation with Neha Dhupia on the premiere episode of No Filter Neha, Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor shared his experiences of navigating the Hindi film industry as an ‘outsider’. Despite being the son of actors Pankaj Kapoor and Neliima Azeem, Kapoor revealed that he received no leverage in his career from his familial connections, attributing his success solely to his hard work and talent. He discussed the prevalent bias within Bollywood, where industry ‘insiders’ often receive more opportunities than newcomers, a trend he believes is detrimental to the quality of Hindi cinema.

Throughout his life, Kapoor has faced numerous challenges, from being bullied in school for being different to encountering similar exclusionary attitudes within the film industry. He recounted his early days in Mumbai, struggling to find acceptance and friendship due to his background and the constant moving due to living in rented accommodations. These experiences, however, have only strengthened his resolve. Kapoor emphasized his refusal to conform to the exclusionary practices of Bollywood camps, advocating for a more inclusive industry where talent and creative collaboration take precedence over nepotism.

Shahid Kapoor’s latest film, “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Jiya,” co-starring Kriti Sanon, has been a box office success, grossing ₹150 crore. As he prepares for his next project, “Deva,” Kapoor remains a vocal advocate for change in the industry, vowing to stand up against bullying and promote a more open and merit-based Bollywood. His journey from an outsider to a celebrated actor underscores his resilience and dedication to his craft.
