Six Bogies of Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express Derail, Resulting in Four Fatalities and Multiple Injuries in Uttar Pradesh

In a tragic incident, six bogies of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Gonda railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, claiming the lives of at least four people and injuring 20 others. The train, which departed from Chandigarh at 11:35 pm on Wednesday, derailed between Motiganj and Jhilahi stations in Gonda district. Rescue operations are in full swing, with top railway officials, 15 ambulances, and 40 medical team members on the scene.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow over the incident and directed district administration officials to expedite relief efforts. “The train accident in Gonda district is extremely unfortunate. District administration officials have been directed to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war footing and to take the injured to the hospital on top priority and provide them proper treatment,” he stated. Additionally, the State Disaster Response Force team has been instructed to assist in the relief operations.
As a result of the derailment, rail traffic has been disrupted, leading to the cancellation of two trains and the diversion of 11 others on the affected route. Both loco pilots of the derailed train are reported to be safe. Further assistance and medical aid are on the way as efforts continue to restore normalcy.
