Telangana MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy Stabbed During Campaign in Siddipet District
In a shocking incident today, Member of Parliament (MP) Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, representing the Medak Lok Sabha constituency in Telangana, was subjected to a brazen attack while campaigning in Siddipet district. The assailant, as yet unidentified, ambushed the MP as he was heading towards a pastor’s residence. The attacker appeared to approach Reddy with the intention of shaking hands, but suddenly produced a knife and stabbed him in the stomach. Fortunately, swift action by Bharatiya Rashtravadi Samanvaya (BRS) workers at the rally led to the assailant’s capture, though he faced retaliation from the crowd.
Siddipet Commissioner of Police, N Swetha, confirmed that the attacker is now in custody, with authorities actively working to ascertain his identity and motives. Mr. Prabhakar Reddy, who sustained injuries to his stomach, was promptly transferred to Gajwel government hospital. The latest reports indicate that his condition is stable, as he receives medical attention.
Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, who was recently declared the BRS candidate for Dubbaka, is set to contest against the incumbent BJP MLA, Raghunandan, in the upcoming November 30 elections. His journey into parliamentary politics began when Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao vacated the seat in 2014 to participate in the assembly elections. Visuals from the scene depict Reddy maintaining pressure on his wound while seated in a vehicle, demonstrating remarkable composure in the face of this alarming incident. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the security challenges faced by political leaders while engaging with the public during election campaigns.
