Rick Owens Commits to Fur-Free Future Following Activist Campaign

Just days after animal rights activists launched a protest campaign against Rick Owens, the American designer has formally committed to eliminating fur from all future collections. In an email to the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT), Owens and his Paris-based business entity Owenscorp confirmed that the brand has been working to reduce and ultimately phase out fur use “over the past decade,” adding, “We will not engage in fur production in the future.” The statement has since been published on the brand’s official website.

CAFT also confirmed that Rick Owens’ online store has removed mink and beaver fur handbags that were previously available for sale. The organisation had staged a five-day protest campaign across London, Los Angeles and New York City last week, during which activists directly addressed Owenscorp CEO Daniela Soto Beltran and Owens’ collaborator Tyrone Dylan. The protests followed broader industry developments, including global publisher Hearst Magazines announcing a ban on fur across its platforms.

Rick Owens now joins a growing list of luxury designers and fashion industry bodies moving away from fur. In 2025 alone, major players such as Condé Nast, New York Fashion Week and Australian Fashion Week have introduced policies restricting or banning the use of fur, signalling a continued shift in the global fashion industry toward more ethical and sustainable practices.
