Atishi Slams Election Commission Over MCC Violation Charges Ahead of Delhi Polls

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi criticized the Election Commission after being charged with allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the pre-election silence period. In a post on X, Atishi expressed frustration over inaction against BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s family while she faced legal action after reporting violations. “The Election Commission is amazing! I filed a complaint, but they filed a case against me,” she said.
The incident unfolded when Atishi alleged that Manish Bidhuri, son of BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri, was interfering in Kalkaji constituency campaigns violating the MCC. She claimed the police unlawfully detained two individuals documenting these violations. In response, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Delhi, stated that Atishi, along with 50-70 supporters, was found gathering in Govindpuri past midnight and refused to vacate despite instructions. FIRs were filed against both AAP members and Manish Bidhuri.
Reacting to the developments, AAP patron Arvind Kejriwal accused the Election Commission and Delhi Police of protecting BJP’s misconduct and targeting AAP leaders. “The job of the police and Election Commission is to indulge in hooliganism against AAP while protecting BJP,” he asserted, condemning the crackdown during the pre-election silence period, which mandates a halt to campaign activities.
