Air Travel Disrupted by Hoax Bomb Threats in Two Separate Incidents

A shocking incident at Mumbai Airport delayed a Lucknow-bound IndiGo flight when a passenger falsely claimed a bomb was under his seat. The event took place late on January 26, amidst heightened security for Republic Day celebrations. The alarming claim on flight 6E 5264 from Mumbai to Lucknow led to a comprehensive search by authorities. However, Mumbai Police confirmed that no suspicious objects were found on board.

In response to the bomb scare, Mumbai Police detained the 27-year-old passenger, who now faces serious charges under sections 506(2) and 505(1)(B) of the Indian Penal Code. The motives behind his actions are currently under investigation. This disruption caused considerable concern among passengers and staff, highlighting the challenges of maintaining security in sensitive times.

In a similar vein, a Noida man was responsible for another hoax bomb threat at Darbhanga Airport. Intending to delay his flight to Delhi due to his late arrival, he alerted the SpiceJet office of a non-existent bomb on flight SG 8946. The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, where it was thoroughly examined and found to be clear of any threat. The accused has been charged under sections 506(2) and 507 of the IPC, as per police reports. These incidents reflect a troubling trend of false alarms in air travel, causing unnecessary panic and operational disruptions.
