Lululemon Restores “Get Low” Leggings Online After See-Through Complaints
Lululemon Athletica said on Thursday it has resumed online sales of its newly launched “Get Low” workout collection, days after the company temporarily removed the line from its website following consumer complaints that the leggings appeared see-through during bending or squatting. The backlash knocked the athleisure maker’s shares down 6.5% on Tuesday, as social media criticism spread rapidly.
Instead of changing the $108 leggings themselves, Lululemon updated its fit and sizing guidance, recommending customers size up for better performance and pair the tights with skin-tone seamless underwear. A company spokesperson said the brand has revised its product education information “to incorporate new guidance on fit, sizing and features to better support guest purchase decisions.”
The issue has also fueled growing pressure on the company’s leadership, with founder Chip Wilson blaming Lululemon’s board and saying the brand has “lost its way as a leader in technical apparel.” The controversy comes amid wider challenges for the retailer, including a CEO transition, activist pressure, slowing growth in the Americas, and rising competition from brands such as Alo Yoga and Vuori.
