Adidas Apologises for Wave of Pink Boots at World Cup

Adidas has apologised for the overwhelming presence of pink football boots at the World Cup, with chief executive Bjorn Gulden describing the trend as an unintended coincidence. Speaking during the company’s quarterly results press conference, Gulden said the brand had not anticipated that so many players across different teams and manufacturers would end up wearing boots of the same colour.

According to Gulden, the issue was not the popularity of pink itself but the fact that several major sportswear companies appeared to have chosen the same shade simultaneously. While acknowledging that pink is an attractive and striking colour, he expressed surprise at the lack of variety and admitted that Adidas hopes to avoid a similar situation in future tournaments.

The unusual dominance of pink boots has sparked several theories, with some experts suggesting that the colour stands out more clearly against green pitches, giving brands greater visibility. Others believe players choose pink as a symbol of confidence and individuality. Gulden noted that manufacturers typically do not know their competitors’ design plans in advance and added that retailers could have played a role in highlighting the lack of colour diversity.
