Election Commission Issues Notice to AAP Leader Atishi Over BJP Allegation Claims

The Election Commission has served a show cause notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Education Minister Atishi following her accusations that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attempted to coax her and other AAP leaders into joining their ranks. Atishi alleged that she, along with Saurabh Bharadwaj, Raghav Chadha, and Durgesh Pathak, was approached by someone “very close”, offering them a chance to join BJP or face arrest by the Enforcement Directorate within a month. This development has stirred significant controversy, as the Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva responded by sending a defamation notice to Atishi, demanding a public apology for her unfounded claims.

In the wake of these allegations, the political atmosphere in Delhi has grown tense. The AAP is facing a challenging time, with its leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, being embroiled in legal troubles linked to a money laundering case concerning the now-defunct excise policy. AAP MP Sanjay Singh, after his arrest in October, was recently released from jail following the Supreme Court’s intervention. These events have cast a shadow over AAP, with the BJP dismissing Atishi’s allegations as baseless and indicative of AAP’s desperation amidst a crisis.

The Election Commission has also taken action against leaders from both BJP and Congress for making derogatory remarks against women, showcasing its commitment to maintaining the dignity and decorum of political discourse. This series of events underscores the heightened scrutiny and the intense political rivalry playing out in the nation’s capital, signaling a turbulent phase for Delhi’s political landscape.
