Former MP Jaya Prada Declared ‘Absconding’ Over Election Code Violation Cases

In a significant development, film actor and former BJP MP, Jaya Prada, has been declared ‘absconding’ by the MP/MLA court in Rampur, following her repeated failure to appear for court hearings related to violations of the election code of conduct during the 2019 elections. The court issued a CrPC order 82 against Jaya Prada after non-bailable warrants (NBWs) were issued multiple times without any response from her end. The cases were registered at Kemri and Swar police stations, highlighting her absence from the legal proceedings despite notices.

Senior Prosecution Officer Amarnath Tiwari emphasized the court’s decision came as a result of Jaya Prada’s consistent avoidance of the legal process, further noting that her mobile was switched off, suggesting an attempt to evade the law. MP/MLA Magistrate Court Judge Shobhit Bansal has been closely monitoring the case, expressing concern over the accused’s disregard for the court’s orders.

In light of these developments, the court has now directed the Superintendent of Police to form a special team to ensure Jaya Prada’s presence at the next scheduled hearing on March 6. This move underlines the judiciary’s determination to uphold the law and ensure accountability, regardless of the individual’s status or position. The ongoing legal battle marks a significant chapter in Jaya Prada’s controversial political career, drawing attention to the importance of adhering to the electoral conduct guidelines.
