Kerala School Introduces Humanoid Teacher Named Iris to Enhance Learning Experience

In an innovative step towards integrating artificial intelligence into education, a Kerala-based school, KTCT Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram, has introduced a humanoid teacher named Iris, developed in collaboration with Makerlabs Edutech Private Limited. This groundbreaking initiative, unveiled last month, aims to make learning more interactive and personalized. Iris, a product of the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) 2021 project by NITI Aayog, is designed to foster students’ extracurricular activities through advanced technological means.

Iris is not your typical teacher; it is a humanoid with the ability to speak three languages, answer complex questions, and engage students with its interactive learning features, voice assistant, manipulation capabilities, and mobility. Makerlabs highlights that Iris is equipped with a dedicated Intel processor and a coprocessor for maneuvering tasks, ensuring seamless performance and responsiveness. The Android App interface allows for easy control and interaction, promising a customized learning journey for each student.

Makerlabs Edutech Private Limited has expressed its mission to revolutionize education by leveraging AI’s power through Iris. “With IRIS, we’ve set out to revolutionize education by harnessing the power of AI to create a truly personalized learning experience,” the company shared in a statement. By adapting to individual student needs and preferences, Iris is set to empower educators to deliver more engaging and effective lessons, paving the way for a futuristic approach to education.
