Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra Appointed District Chief Amid Controversy

In a strategic move by the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Mahua Moitra, Member of Parliament and a prominent leader in West Bengal, has been appointed as the district chief of Krishnanagar (Nadia North). This development comes amidst a significant controversy surrounding Moitra in the cash-for-query case. The AITC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, made the announcement today, appointing Moitra along with 15 other new district chiefs.

Moitra expressed her gratitude in a post on social media, stating, “Thank you, Mamata Banerjee and AITC for appointing me District President of Krishnanagar (Nadia North). Will always work with the party for the people of Krishnanagar.” The move is being interpreted as a clear indication of the party’s confidence in Moitra’s leadership, despite the ongoing controversy.

The cash-for-query case involves allegations that Moitra accepted cash and benefits from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for asking questions in Parliament. The Lok Sabha ethics committee recommended her suspension, describing her actions as “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal.” Moitra, however, defended herself, arguing that there are no regulations prohibiting the sharing of login and password information.

The AITC’s decision to entrust Moitra with the responsibility of a district within her Lok Sabha constituency suggests a strategic move to consolidate her position within the party, emphasizing her importance as a leader.

Ethics Committee Recommends Severe Punishment for Mahua Moitra in Cash-for-Query Case

In a significant turn of events, the Lok Sabha ethics committee has recommended severe punishment for Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in the cash-for-query case. The committee, after a closed-door meeting in which Moitra and opposition MPs walked out, submitted a 500-page report to the Lok Sabha Speaker, suggesting that Moitra should not be allowed to continue as an MP, and her membership should be terminated.

The report describes Moitra’s actions as “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal,” calling for a “legal, intensive, institutional, and time-bound investigation” into the matter. The committee alleges that Moitra shared her parliamentary login with “unauthorized persons,” accepted cash and amenities from businessman Darshan Hiranandani, and engaged in a “quid pro quo” arrangement.

Moitra, who has been appointed as the district chief of Krishnanagar amid the controversy, has maintained her innocence, stating that there are no regulations governing the sharing of login and password information.

BJP Pushes for CBI Probe into Corruption Allegations Against Mahua Moitra

The controversy surrounding Mahua Moitra has taken a new turn as BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who initially flagged the matter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, revealed that the Lokpal has ordered a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into corruption allegations against Moitra. Dubey alleges that Moitra accepted cash from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament, targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and business rival Adani Group.

Accusing Moitra of compromising national security by sharing her parliamentary login with the businessman, Dubey asserts that the anti-corruption body Lokpal has initiated a comprehensive investigation. Moitra had admitted to sharing her user ID but argued that there are no specific rules prohibiting such actions. The development adds a new layer of complexity to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Trinamool Congress leader.
