Usman Khan Cleared to Join Pakistan Squad Despite UAE Ban, PCB Confirms

In a significant development for Pakistan cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that Usman Khan is in contention for a spot in the national team for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. Despite facing a recent five-year ban from the Emirates Cricket Board for breaches of obligation, Khan’s eligibility to play for Pakistan remains unaffected. The 28-year-old batter was part of a 29-player fitness camp conducted with assistance from Pakistan Army trainers, highlighting the PCB’s interest in his talents.

The controversy surrounding Khan stems from his ban by the UAE for “misrepresenting his intentions” to the board and pursuing cricketing opportunities outside of his commitment to UAE cricket. The Emirates Cricket Board expressed disappointment, stating Khan leveraged the development opportunities provided to him for personal gain, undermining his obligations to complete the eligibility criteria for the UAE team. Despite this setback, PCB’s stance allows Khan a chance to contribute to Pakistan cricket, especially in the light of the forthcoming home series.

As Pakistan prepares to host New Zealand from April 18 to April 27 for a five-match T20I series, the PCB is also navigating through the process of appointing a new head coach. Following Grant Bradburn’s departure post-World Cup last year, names like former New Zealand cricketer Luke Ronchi and ex-Australia coach Justin Langer have emerged as potential candidates. The series, set to take place in Rawalpindi and Lahore, promises an exciting cricketing spectacle with potential new leadership and talents like Usman Khan in the lineup.
